Had you told me before the race that she was going to break from the outside post, blister the initial six panels in 1:11 and finish the mile at 1:35, I would have pulled my hedge trifecta off the tote. With those fractions, you had to believe that in the final 3/16th Mine That Bird would close like a quarterback on prom night and beat Rachel to the line. But the filly would have none of this and did her best Joan Crawford as she stared down the little gelding and held on for the win.
